Mona Majdalani

Dr. Mona Majdalani is a professor of education at the Lebanese American University. She taught elementary school for five years at the International College-Elementary School (1983-1988). She then pursued both her Master’s and PhD degrees at Texas A&M University while teaching concurrently the Math Methods courses for Elementary Teachers (1988-1993). She was appointed assistant professor for one year at graduation 1993-1994.

She then moved to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she joined the ranks of Assistant Professors in 1994. She was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2000, and subsequently to full professor in 2007. She is the recipient of many awards and honors and is a member of professional organizations; namely the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).

Professional Interests

She uses current practices in elementary mathematics teaching as a critical context for helping students develop meaning. Her work also focuses on helping preservice teachers develop reflective practice and critical thinking through preservice teacher education programs. In addition, Dr. Majdalani has worked diligently on trying to develop and enhance field-based experiences in schools. Lastly, she tries to promote content integration of Math, Science, and Technology in particular within constructivist frameworks.

Other than the pedagogical and content aspects, Dr. Majdalani has served in a number of administrative positions learning the tricks of each trade, from budgeting, to workload allocation, to accreditation and compliance, etc. The last such position was the assistant provost for Academic Affairs (2013-2018).

Other Interests

Dr. Majdalani appreciates working with all kinds of people. She enjoys the outdoors; namely gardening and exercising, but also cooking and reading. Her favorite season is late spring early summer, and late summer early fall. Technology is a hobby and her skills in that arena are self-acquired. She is extremely patient.
