About the department
The department of Social Sciences at LAU is one of the leading academic entities in the field in the Middle East. It is an interdisciplinary department with faculty committed to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction across the social sciences. In addition to the degree programs, the department offers a rich variety of courses in the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum and specialized coursework in the area of women’s studies.
The department also houses the Institute for Migration Studies in LAU’s Beirut campus, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, research-based, educationally minded, policy-driven and network-oriented work.
Degrees and programs offered
The department offers four Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs in political science, political science/international affairs, psychology, and social work; a Master of Arts (M.A.) in international affairs,migration studies, and interdisciplinary gender studies; and six minors in conflict analysis and resolution, legal studies, political science/international affairs, psychology, sociology, Gender Studies , Social Work and Community Development.
