Paula Abboud Habre

Senior Instructor of English

Paula Abboud Habre has been an instructor in the intensive and regular English programs at LAU since 1992. She has also coordinated the ENG002, 003, 009, and 101 courses at each of these levels for a number of years.

Her teaching experience stretches from the elementary school to university levels. Her MA focused on teaching English as a foreign language in the Department of Education at the American University of Beirut, and one year of her coursework was done at Boston University. Her fieldwork entailed initiating a writing center for the graduate School of Management there.

Habre’s main interests are the teaching of writing to second language learners and the testing of language in all its skills. She has engaged in a number of teacher training programs, outreaching public and private schools in Lebanon. She frequently conducts and attends workshops, and has also participated in a number of local and regional and international conferences.

She was also the director of the LAU Writing Center, which was established in 2010. She finds the responsibility to ensure a beneficial one-on-one experience to students very rewarding. Besides being a member of the International Writing Centers Association (IWCA), she is a board member of the Middle East and North Africa Writing Centers Association (MENAWCA) and has been recently elected as its treasurer for two years after having previously served the alliance as a public relations officer.
